These are the most unlikely pieces of the show, because Becca didn’t like vases or planters and I didn’t care much for cut flowers or houseplants. Until this January. Gardening fever hit early and hard, and there was nothing for it but to propagate the houseplants we already had. By making as many cuttings and divisions as the plants could stand, I presented Becca with an urgent demand for planters. Meanwhile, the basement worm farm kept converting school-rescued food waste into rich, chemical-free fertilizer. Pots, plants, and plant-food came to life under the same roof—and then we went to the Dunes and found driftwood and sea-rocks to share.
The vases come from even further afield: thrown by Becca, carved by her and her sister Katie, wood-fired in northern Wisconsin and finally graced with flowers from Falcon Creek Farm. Collaboration is a winding and abundant path. May it brighten your space as much as it has (unexpectedly) brightened ours.
