The chalice and paten were central in my show because, for Christians, Divine hospitality is both our beginning and our constant renewal. At the Lord’s table, bread and wine become the gifts of God for the people of God, the tangible generosity of the self-giving love of God.
But the mixing bowls, pans, pitcher and cups remind us of the ordinariness of bread and wine. This also is as it should be. Received as guests at the table of God, we’re turned loose again to practice that hospitality in the midst of our daily lives.
