You’ve already seen my sister Katie and I collaborate. But Katie is a potter in her own right, and this week I’m delighted to feature some of her work.

Inspired by the melding of food and community she’s seen at home and abroad, she’s named her pottery line Sobremesa. That’s an untranslatable Spanish word for lingering in conversation among the friends and empty dishes of a dinner table.

Food and companionship are human needs we never grow out of, and she wants her pottery to celebrate the dependencies that inform our lives together. Her love of community is evident even in pieces not designated for the dinner table. Katie practices calligraphy, painting, and jewelry-making in addition to ceramics, and you can see the influence of all of these in the pieces up for sale today. But she delights in the connection that pottery—formed and passed from hand to hand—creates between her and the people who interact with her work.

It is with pride and great pleasure that I present to you these Sobremesa pieces, the work of my fellow-potter, sister, and friend.
